Painter Jargon

All industries and lines of work have their own vocabulary of terms and jargon. Painting is no exception.
Below is a list of some common ones.

HOLIDAY – A missed spot. Usually from a roller that will leave a small dot like pattern of missing paint.

RAILROAD TRACK – A thick line a paint left from the edge of a roller. It’s usually caused from uneven or too much pressure when rolling.

FUZZIES – Small foreign objects that have dried into paint. Usually caused by the lint in a cheap roller from previous paint job.

SNOTS – Sometimes old or cheap paint will have solid chunks in it rendering it unusable. These would need to be strained out of the paint prior to application.

BLEEDER – A stain that is visible after painting is called a bleeder. The stain will need to be oil primed and then repainted.

SCOOBY – A blob of spackle that has landed on the floor looking like dog poop! Scooby Doo!!

DIMPLES – These are small dents or dimples in trim. They are caused by not properly filling the nail holes in trim prior to painting.

POTHOLES – Large holes in plaster walls. Why the way, BOC can fix them!!!

DOG HOUSE – Also known as a dormer on the exterior of home.

FLASHING – A visible sheen variation in drywall. It’s caused by not priming a spackled area. These are preventable!!!
