All industries and lines of work have their own vocabulary of terms and jargon. Painting is no exception.
Below is a list of some common ones.
HOLIDAY – A missed spot. Usually from a roller that will leave a small dot like pattern of missing paint.
RAILROAD TRACK – A thick line a paint left from the edge of a roller. It’s usually caused from uneven or too much pressure when rolling.
FUZZIES – Small foreign objects that have dried into paint. Usually caused by the lint in a cheap roller from previous paint job.
SNOTS – Sometimes old or cheap paint will have solid chunks in it rendering it unusable. These would need to be strained out of the paint prior to application.
BLEEDER – A stain that is visible after painting is called a bleeder. The stain will need to be oil primed and then repainted.
SCOOBY – A blob of spackle that has landed on the floor looking like dog poop! Scooby Doo!!
DIMPLES – These are small dents or dimples in trim. They are caused by not properly filling the nail holes in trim prior to painting.
POTHOLES – Large holes in plaster walls. Why the way, BOC can fix them!!!
DOG HOUSE – Also known as a dormer on the exterior of home.
FLASHING – A visible sheen variation in drywall. It’s caused by not priming a spackled area. These are preventable!!!
SAGGING – Drips of heavy paint running down a wall . caused from spraying too much material in one area.
